Two drivers extricated after dozens of collisions

Firefighters were busy on Monday morning, tackling 25 vehicle crashes in a five-hour window after a dusting of snow in the nation’s capital.

One of those incidents included a two-vehicle collision where people were trapped inside.

It happened just before 9:00 a.m. on March 24, when crews were told a vehicle was in the ditch at the intersection of Old Richmond Road and Stonehaven Drive, in Kanata south.

Crews arrived within three minutes and found two vehicles in the ditch. Both drivers were trapped and needed help.

Firefighters stabilized both vehicles and used specialized tools to remove the people. The first person was out by 9:10 a.m. and the second just five minutes later.

The teams left the scene by 9:42 a.m.
