The City of Ottawa installed a new road sign near TD Place celebrating a monumental moment in women’s hockey.
“Charge Avenue” represents the first time the Ottawa Charge made it into the Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) playoffs after falling short in their inaugural year. The sign was raised with a circle of councillors and players from the team on Wednesday morning.
It will stand at the intersection of Bank Street and Exhibition Way for the remainder of the series.
The Charge clinched their playoff spot on Saturday after an overtime goal from Kateřina Mrázová against the Toronto Sceptres.
The Montreal Victoire will face the Ottawa Charge in the opening round of the playoffs. The regular-season champion has the option of selecting either the third seed or the fourth seed to face in a best-of-five first-round series. This forces Toronto to play Minnesota.
Game 1 of the Charge-Victoire series goes Thursday at Place Bell.
