Second-degree and attempted murder charges laid in 2 stabbing incidents

A man is facing two serious charges after two stabbing incidents that happened within a day of each other.

Police arrested Osanhenoma Igbinedion, 35, in connection with stabbings in the ByWard Market that happened within 400 metres of each other.

The first incident was reported at 10:39 a.m. on Oct. 17. Police responded to the King Edward Avenue and York Street area, where the victim was transported to hospital in life-threatening condition. Officials later said that the person died of those injuries on Oct. 30.

This is the 10th stabbing-related homicide in the city and the third in October, and the 18th homicide overall.

In this case, Igbinedion is facing a second-degree murder charge.

Then the next day, around 3:08 p.m., officers were called to reports of a robbery in progress in the Cumberland and St. Patrick streets area. The reports to police indicated that a suspect was stabbing a victim, who was left with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The accused in this incident was charged with attempted murder.

Same weekend as east-end stabbing

Within a 24-hour period, the City of Ottawa saw three stabbings. The third one happened in the Industrial Park community, southeast of downtown.

Officers were called to the 1700 block of Russell Road in the Industrial Park neighbourhood in the east end. Police found a victim with stab wounds on Oct. 18, around midnight.

They identified him as Raphael Atende, 21.

In this incident, police are looking for a person of interest known to be around the Russell Heights Community. He is described as Black with a dark complexion, and is between 19 to 21 years old. He is around 6’1″ in height.
