Charges laid after child abuse, exploitation material was posted online

Ottawa police laid charges against a Barrhaven youth after a report of child sexual abuse and exploitation material was being posted on social media.

On Dec. 10, officers executed a search warrant at a home in the south end neighbourhood after a social media platform reported to police of an unknown user uploading child sexual content. The search led to the arrest of a male youth for making and possessing child sexual abuse and exploitation material.

Police seized several electronic devices and media storage devices. The youth cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

The investigation is continuing as police examine the digital evidence they seized.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the OPS ICE Unit at 613-236-1222, ext. 5660.
