Woman dead after serious impaired crash in west end

Police are investigating a serious collision that left a woman dead in Ottawa’s west end on Wednesday.

Officials said the incident happened around 7:15 p.m. between a passenger van and a sedan on Carling Avenue near Ullswater Drive, just west of Andrew Haydon Park.

As a result of the crash, a 52-year-old woman was found dead at the scene. There were no other passengers or injured people, police said.

Officials charged Vicente Ramos, 31, is charged with impaired operation causing death and dangerous operation causing death.

“Police are continuing the investigation, including processing the scene and examining the vehicles involved to determine the factors that led to the collision,” the press release reads.

Officers are asking anyone who witnessed the collision or who may have dashcam footage to speak to police.

“This incident is a heartbreaking reminder that impaired driving can have devastating, irreversible consequences,” police said. “One decision can take a life and forever change the lives of families, friends, and entire communities. Please plan ahead, make safe choices, and always drive sober.”

Impaired charges laid in Ottawa were slightly increased year-over-year. Police said that 854 people were charged in 2025 and 837 the year prior.
