By OttawaMatters Staff

An incident at a light rail Stage 2 construction site near Ottawa's airport has sent four people to hospital.

The City of Ottawa says there was an incident at the construction site for the future Airport Station on Thursday at 10:30 a.m.

Crews were assembling rebar cages at an elevated guideway as part of the Trillium Line South Extension when one collapsed onto five workers who were assembling the cage from the inside.

Ottawa paramedics say three of the four men were taken to hospital in stable condition, including one worker who had a possible spinal injury. The fourth worker, who had a potential head and chest injury, was transported in serious condition but his injuries were not considered life-threatening.

All activities on the site have been stopped while a Ministry of Labour investigation is conducted.

Ottawa police, the contractor, and TransitNext are also on the site.
