The Ottawa-Carleton District School Board (OCDSB) is getting $48-million from the province to build a new high school in Stittsville.
Back in 2018, Carleton MPP Goldie Ghamari said Ontario's Ministry of Education had approved $37-million to see the school built by 2021. Nearly three years later, the MPP is announcing an investment that will see shovels in the ground in spring of this year and the school built by 2023.
The OCDSB says, “The original target for issuance of tender documents had been the fall of 2019 but for a variety of reasons, including potential costs, this work took longer than anticipated. The uncertainty about pricing and supply chains as a result of the pandemic delayed issuance of the tender until the fall of 2020. Subsequent negotiations occurred with the province and we received approval to proceed with the project in February.”
The new Stittsville Secondary School is expected to feature 1,353 classroom spaces for students in grades 7 to 12.
The facility will be located at 700 Cope Drive in Ottawa.
