Winter storm watch upgraded to warning for Ottawa

By Alex Black

A winter storm watch issued for Ottawa has been upgraded to a winter storm warning

Environment Canada is calling for significant snowfall to begin during the evening hours of Thursday, Jan. 12 and intensify through the overnight.

The weather agency is forecasting rapidly accumulating snow, and mixed with strong winds and a chance of freezing rain, poor road conditions are likely.

Motorists are advised to be prepared for slippery conditions and reduced visibility at times due to blowing snow.

A total of 20 to 30 cm is expected before the snow tapers off Friday evening.

Environment Canada is urging that people consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve.
