Bluesfest putting early hiccups behind it, entering final weekend feeling good

By Mike Vlasveld

Organizers of RBC Bluesfest say their biggest challenges are behind them, and they're looking forward to what they think will be a successful weekend.

This year's festival saw the implementation of new security measures, which included metal detectors at its main gates. Those made for slow entry on Bluesfest's first night.

Things also got a bit complicated on Tuesday evening, when the festival saw a crowd of more than 30,000 for the Foo Fighters. In order to get attendees flowing through the gates at a quicker pace, spokesperson Joe Reilly told 1310 NEWS' Ottawa Today with Mark Sutcliffe, they decided to turn the metal detectors off for about an hour.

He expects the final nights of Bluesfest to be well-attended, but he does not see them having to reconfigure security again.

On other busy nights, such as last Saturday for Shawn Mendes, Reilly said no concert-goer waited in line for more than 10 minutes.

Friday night's City Stage features Sturgill Simpson before headliner Beck.

Saturday's main stage line-up is geared toward pop and hip hop fans with the likes of Elijah Woods x Jamie Fine, Jesse Reyez and Rae Sremmurd.

Rock acts Three Days Grace and Rise Against close out the festival on Sunday.
