City dedicates site for new public library

By OttawaMatters Staff

The site for the city's new main public library branch has been dedicated.

Municipal and federal politicians gathered at the corner of Albert and Commissioner streets, Monday, dedicating the space for what will be a joint facility with Library and Archives Canada.

The street corner is now home to a new sign that identifies exactly where the library will go.

Construction on the nearly $175 million building is schedule to begin in 2021. The library is set to open in 2024.

Architects are currently competing for a design contract, which Mayor Jim Watson says will be awarded by this fall, at the latest.
