By CityNews Ottawa

The head of OC Transpo is in the running for the top transit job in Boston, and has emerged as one of the top candidates.

CBS Boston reports that Renée Amilcar, OC Transpo's general manager, has emerged as a “top-tier candidate” for the general manager job at the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority.

The Boston-area transit system has nearly four times the annual ridership of OC Transpo, and includes a bus network and four subway lines.

Amilcar joined OC Transpo as general manager in October 2021, after overseeing the bus network and holding other roles at Montréal's transit authority.

The MBTA has been looking for a new general manager since January.

Mayor Mark Sutcliffe's office says he his aware of the news but is unable to provide a comment.

However, Amilcar has issued a statement which said she has no plans to leave OC Transpo.

“I have just returned from a conference in Europe for the International Association of Public Transport (UITP).

I understand there has been media coverage regarding my future at OC Transpo. I have not been contacted by any American public transit agencies for potential job opportunities.

I remain fully committed to continuously improving OC Transpo services for the residents of Ottawa; I have no intention of leaving my current role as the General Manager of Transit Services at the City of Ottawa.

The OC Transpo team is remarkable, and I’m very proud of the work we do. I love my job and I love OC Transpo.”
