Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers have confirmed to CityNews that there is an active investigation at the Perth Campus of the Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospital due to allegations of a hidden camera.
“The Perth campus of the Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospital contacted the detachment to make a report,” said OPP sergeant Joe Tereschuk, adding that “the incident has and is currently still under an active investigation so we are not able to comment on the specifics or the ongoing details of the investigation at this time.”
Hospital spokesperson Karen Kelly, in a statement, said the Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospital is “cooperating fully with the Lanark County OPP investigation and we have been communicating openly with our staff.”
Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), the union that represents hospital workers in Ontario, provided a general comment as they seek additional information from local representatives.
“CUPE has over the last year been raising the issue of workplace violence, sexual harassment, violence in the workplace and have asked for additional measures to be put in place,” the statement read.
