Ottawa athletes to compete in Canadian Olympic Committee’s Talent Search final

Four local athletes from Ottawa have been selected to be finalists in the Canadian Olympic Committee’s Talent Search. The national final is the result of a year long, cross-country search for new athletes to put into Canada's Olympic talent pipeline.
This year’s finalists include 20-year-old Addison Chong, an Ultimate Frisbee player; 20-year old Dawson Fatoric, a former provincial-level rugby player whose parents were both national-level weight lifters; 16-year-old Skye Pellerin, who runs track at the Ottawa Lions Track Club and Lucy Hempstead, and 18-year-old OFSSA level sprinter.
Contestants were selected from a pool of close to 2,000 athletes who participated in one of 30 local RBC Training Ground events this year. Thirty of these 100 athletes will be selected as ‘Future Olympians’, receive funding and resources to pursue their Olympic dreams.
During grounf training, athletes perform speed, strength, and endurance tests in front of coaches and talent scouts from sports organizations like Rugby Canada, Cycling Canada and Speed Skating Canada.
During the final, they will get a chance to meet Olympic champions like bobsledder Justin Kripps, figure skater Patrick Chan and swimmer Penny Oleksiak. Volleyball player and Tokyo 2020 medal hopeful Melissa Humana-Paredes, will also be in attendance.
The RBC Training Ground was created in 2016 to help finding and supporting the next generation of Canadian Olympians. So far, it has tested over 7,000 athletes, hosted 98 free local events in 35 different Canadian communities and provided $1.3 million in financial support to various athletes.
