Ottawa firefighters quickly knock down blaze in unoccupied Carlington-area apartment

There are no injuries reported after a fire in an unoccupied apartment in Ottawa's Carlington neighbourhood. 

Ottawa Fire Services (OFS) responded to the building on Shillington Avenue around 8:45 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 15 after a 9-1-1 call reporting black smoke coming from an outside vent. 

Upon entering the building, fire crews confirmed smoke in a first floor hallway and a fire in one of the units. 

A working fire was declared at 8:54 p.m. and was under control within 15 minutes. 

A fire investigator has been dispatched to the scene to determine the cause.
