Ottawa Senators “ride the rails”

The Ottawa Senators will be going back in time as they board the Heritage Train for a trip to Montreal.
The team will dress in period costume and join fans on board for the unique road trip as the Sens take on the Canadiens tomorrow night.
Ottawa hockey historian , Paul Kitchen tells 1310News, the train has deep roots in the N.H.L. “If it wasn’t for train travel, there probably wouldn’t have been any inter-city competition at least in the early days”
Kitchen will also be on the Heritage Train and enthralling fans with stories of hockey history. “The very first trip a hockey team took was in 1883 when the Quebec hockey club travelled to Montreal for a tournament”.
He tells 1310News, the players enjoy dressing up in period costume for the unique road trip.
By the late 50’s air travel replaced train travel due to tight time constraints and compressed schedules.
