After completing an inspection, a pair of inspectors for two animal welfare groups say there are no major issues at Marineland.
Inspectors for the Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and the Canadian Association of Zoos and Aquariums were in Niagara Falls Thursday to tour the park.
Questions have been raised about the health and conditions of the animals at Marineland in a recent series of stories in the Toronto Star.
The inspectors did confirm claims that several animals do suffer from eye problems, although they attributed the majority of them to old age and not water quality.
They added that the animals are under a high level of veterinary care, including pain management and an active treatment research program.
Overall the inspectors found “the collection’s health looked very good.”
In response, Marineland’s owner, John Holer, said “We welcome everyone to visit Marineland and enjoy our park, confident in the knowledge that all of our animals are well cared for.”
