OC Transpo running fewer trains, expecting busier Monday afternoon commute

By Mike Vlasveld

OC Transpo is warning commuters that Monday afternoon's ride on the O-Train might be more congested.

Due to technical issues with a few of its trains, it will only be running 10 of the typically required 13 trains on the Confederation Line. That means platforms and trains could see up to 20 per cent more passengers.

General Manager of Transportation Services John Manconi says trains will be running every five minutes, and commuters should expect wait times to be longer, but only by about a minute.

OC Transpo had to implement R1 replacement bus service on Saturday and Sunday in response to Rideau Transit Maintenance (RTM) issues with track switches and switch heaters on O-Train Line 1.

Monday morning, RTM ran service with 11 of the 13 trains. Towards the end of the morning peak period, two additional trains were removed from service due to technical issues — a compressor fault and a wheel issue.
