Ottawa firefighters clear Alta Vista apartment with ‘heavy black smoke’

Fire crews stopped a kitchen fire from spreading outside a first floor unit at an Alta Vista multi-unit complex Wednesday morning.
Ottawa Fire Service (OFS) said they received multiple 9-1-1 calls at about 10:12 a.m. from a complex in the 2800 block of Baycrest Drive.
OFS said fire crews were met on scene by the building manager outside who advised them a first floor unit was full of black smoke.
Firefighters extinguished the flames and confirmed there wasn’t anyone in the unit.
OFS said the fire did not damage any of the surrounding apartments and they used high pressurized fans to ventilate the residual smoke from the structure.
No injuries have been reported and no residents were displaced.
An OFS fire investigator is on scene.
