G2 driver charged with alcohol-related offences

A novice driver from Ottawa is facing impaired driving charges after a RIDE program stop early Sunday morning.

Ottawa OPP was conducting random RIDE checks when approached by a vehicle shortly before 1:00 a.m.

OPP say the attending officers suspected the driver had been consuming alcohol. The driver, who was already a suspended driver with a G2 licence, refused to provide a roadside breath sample. There is no tolerance for any blood alcohol level for G2 drivers under Ontario law.

As a result, 31-year-old Mahad Abdullahi is facing the following charges:

  • Failure or refusal to comply with demand;
  • Driving while under suspension;
  • Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor;
  • Novice driver – B.A.C above zero; and
  • Novice driver refuse to provide breath sample

Abdullahi was issued a 90-day driving suspension and his vehicle was impounded for seven days. He is scheduled to appear in Provincial Court at a later date.
