Firefighters extricate driver after five-vehicle collision on Hwy. 417

Ontario Provincial Police called the Ottawa fire communications division to help remove a driver trapped from a vehicle on Highway 417.

The incident happened around 6:36 p.m. on Monday night in the westbound lanes of the highway near Kent Street. Firefighters arrived and saw five vehicles involved in a crash. One of the drivers was trapped with the airbags deployed.

Crews stabilized the car and were able to remove the driver’s door and take out the person by 6:51 p.m.

As a precaution, they stretched a hose line and ensured all vehicles’ batteries were disconnected. The leaking fluid from the crash was absorbed before firefighters left the scene.
