Gatineau Police take action on threats towards two high schools in the region

By Danielle Bain

Two high schools in the Gatineau region have been the targets of threats.

The Service de police de la Ville de Gatineau (SPVG) received one complaint concerning threats towards the École Secondaire Du Versant around 3 p.m. on April 19. The complaint came from a person attending the school who said they alerted police immediately.

Once notified, the SPVG tried to identify the individual the threats were coming from. Later that day, police arrested a teenager attending the school suspected of making the threats and brought him to the station for questioning.

The teenager was released on a promise to appear with various conditions to be met and chargers for uttering threats will be submitted to the director of criminal and penal prosecutions (DPCP) in the youth chamber.

The other incident involved threats made against École secondaire de l'Île in Gatineau also on April 19. The SPVG says the investigation is still ongoing.

Even though the events seem similar and could be linked, police are treating these incidents as two separate cases since the evidence collected so far does not make it possible for the first suspect to be responsible for the threats made against École secondaire de l'Île.

Security measures have been put in place including the implementation of additional staff around the the two schools that were targeted.

The SPVG invites anyone with information about these investigations to contact its info line at 819 243-4636, option 5. The information will be treated confidentially.
