Ottawa Senators sign defenceman Thomas Chabot to eight-year contract extension

The Ottawa Senators have signed defenceman Thomas Chabot, 21, to an eight-year contract extension valued at $8 million a year on average. 

The contract broken down by year: 

  • $7M in 2020-21
  • $7M in 2021-22
  • $4M in 2022-23
  • $8M in 2023-24
  • $10M in 2024-25
  • $10M in 2025-26
  • $10M in 2026-27 
  • $8M in 2027-28

Chabot had a record-setting season, where he garnered career highs in the number of goals, assists, points, penalty minutes and games and he ranked 10th among NHL defencemen in scoring. 

Senators' General Manager, Pierre Dorion described Chabot as “an exceptional talent and an outstanding teammate, who is impactful both on and off the ice. He is the type of player that can develop into a core member of a championship-level team in the National Hockey League.”

Dorion said he believes that Chabot will continue to be a key part of the team's future success moving forward, calling Thursday a good day for the franchise.
