A suspect is in custody after hours-long negotiations with police.
The Lennox and Addington (L&A) Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and Tyendinaga Police responded to a report of a barricaded person at a Hastings County residence.
Police said they were called to help on a paramedic services call on Lower Slash Road in Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory at around noon on Monday.
Emergency crews were responding to a medical alarm call at the home and found an injured person on the property.
Paramedic services warned officers there was still someone inside who was threatening people and may be armed.
Tyendinaga Police responded along with the assistance of L&A OPP, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police’s Emergency Response Team and the OPP’s Tactics and Rescue Unit.
Police closed off Lower Slash Road between Deseronto Road and Mowbrays Road during negotiations.
Police said there were still two men at the residence and were able to talk them out of the home around 3:00 p.m.
One of the men, a 35 year old from Tyendinaga First Nation, was arrested and charged with:
- Two counts of assault causing bodily harm;
- Forcible confinement; and
- Uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm.
The accused is being held for a bail hearing.
